With this piece the coffee stains go to a different level of light and shadow. Because coffee is is not as easy to bond to its surface like watercolor or acrylic or gouache the solution needs to be of a ‘thicker sediment’. If you look at the area around our brave Sprite here you see the myriad of stains darkening as the get further away from her. You see the same effect upon the shadows of the Gargoyle who attracts her. During the romance of February I tend to paint Faeries and I do this using coffee. after a few years of this I have come to this layer-stained methos and the result is perhaps the eye’s version of learning what our taste buds already know in our respective coffee tradition. This is perfect for one who finds a magic spell within one’s own cup of coffee.
