Inspired by those eternal moments- when only your cat understood you. You know those moments. Just a chance to experience the magic spell known as ‘The Purring”. These are -dare I say it Count- God’s gifts to us.

Based upon a favorite tale I made in my early days creating ghost stories. What if the a cat found the terrible Count? Not just any cat mind you. The RIGHT Cat. Anything is possible when the right Cat finds you. And just as Coppola envisioned- even Dracula is capable of Love!

I was not taken with the original illustration however the story and it’s themes always haunted me.

7 years later I revisited the story with a new illustration- complete with angels singing out the love in Vlad’s dark heart. As any cat-lover will attest- never underestimate the disarming skills of a confident purring kitty. For all those times when your cat was the one you needed most- just for a moment- here is such a moment when the king of loneliness came home to his heart for one eternal moment.

 "Draga! Your Veeskers are teeckling Me!" Aaah it had been a tough fortnight for Vlad. Whence it was found he was pursuing a younger mate named Mina- he was slapped with Three simultaneous divorces! And then Mina went back to her Beau, John. And poor Vlad was alone in his Castle.

    O, but in his pained wounds of the heart there came the softest “Meooow”. At rock bottom even the most evil among us may hear the angels singing... he scooped up the fragile mess of soft black fur and ribs and smiled to feel the purring vibrations in his palms. Here was the black kitten whom he would call 'Draga' {Romanian for Darling}. And the two sociopaths instantly took to one another. She calmed him with her beguiling purrs and he... eventually added a few decades to her life with some of his blood in her food. But he waited until she was older before doing so- “you must be able to hunt for your food my Draga.”

        The Village in the Transylvanian Foothills still suffered some 'missing persons' to be sure but-- not enough to warrant any more of those annoying 'Torch and Fork' Angry Mobs. And the lonesome Count. Was not so anymore…
