There is an element of the fantastical and the real to this little one. Mermaids are Real I want to say- when I see her. This was painted in watercolors and she is the second Mermaid I have painted during this ghost in the gaslight art project. She evokes all of the mystery and the magic of the mermaid legend: She exists in the periphery of mariner and pirate lore. Something to be loved or feared and always enticing. That Ocean which envelopes our world- it holds realms beyond what we can fathom- and the only way to access it- beyond technologies and histories are the stories we tell of the things we see in our drreams. Here is where she swims… and thrives.

“She is a thrilling chase to be sure! I have known this fish to listen to her own current. She will not be caged or tied down. She will enjoy the sunlight for herself but will swim away quickly if she is made to stay there. This little one finds it best to stick to the shadows and appreciate the warm beams as they tickle through the waters. She is a master of luring her pursuer into the water. Ahhh but I must say- to love this intriguing mermaid is to love the vastness of the ocean... and life. Back into the water you go my dear. “
